DESCRIPTION
The Remedy, Kurt Rosenwinkel’s contemporary epic, is a two-disc live album recorded in January of 2006 at the Village Vanguard, widely regarded as among the most profound and influential performance recordings in the present-day jazz idiom.
Guitarist, composer, bandleader, and Heartcore Records founder Kurt Rosenwinkel has long been known as a singular and luminary voice at the forefront of modern music, a true artistic innovator whose unique vision has paved the way for generations of artistic individuals and followers alike. Amongst Kurt’s vast catalogue of work, there is one album that exists atop the towering apex of his canon of live recorded output. The Remedy, a daring effort culled from a week of performances at The Village Vanguard, features Rosenwinkel’s expanded classic period ensemble of Mark Turner on saxophone, Joe Martin on bass, Aaron Goldberg on piano, and Eric Harland on drums expertly navigating through extended iterations of the composer’s most challenging and potent repertoire.
Blending the steadfast ingenuity first heard on The Next Step with the meticulously detailed and orchestrational approach of its predecessor Deep Song, The Remedy’s distinctive compositional balance of head and heart quickly translated to a number of rave reviews upon the album’s initial release in March of 2008:
“The virtuosity on display throughout these two discs is an unrelentingly emphatic expression of what it means to put impeccable musicianship in service of art.” – All About Jazz
To celebrate the Re-Release and the album’s enduring legacy, Kurt Rosenwinkel has assembled the original album cast for a European tour in Fall 2026, with select performances featuring contemporary jazz greats Kendrick Scott, Seamus Blake, and the legendary Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Release date: October 30, 2026
