Heartcore Academy, in collaboration with ZigZag Jazz Club Berlin, is pleased to announce the release of a new masterclass, “A Discussion in Time” by world-renowned jazz drummer Greg Hutchinson.
Often described as “the drummer of his generation,” Hutchinson has built a career at the highest level of jazz. A Brooklyn native, he began playing drums as a child, inspired by his father, who was also a musician. By his early twenties, Hutchinson was already sharing the stage with jazz legends such as Betty Carter, Red Rodney, and Ray Brown, and he has since collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Dianne Reeves, Joshua Redman, Diana Krall, and John Scofield. His mastery of rhythm, timing, and sound has not only earned him acclaim in the jazz world but has also drawn recognition from the hip-hop community, where he has worked with artists such as Common and Kareem Riggins. With his deep roots in tradition and his fearless creativity, Hutchinson continues to be one of the most inspiring musicians of our time.
In "A Discussion in Time," Hutchinson shares his insights into rhythm, sound, and musical growth. The Masterclass addresses a wide range of essential topics, including comping, dynamics, tone, practice routines, and the importance of listening. Beyond technique, Hutchinson reflects on tradition, discipline, and the process of discovering one’s personal voice on the instrument. With clarity and depth, he combines technical instruction with practical guidance and personal reflections, offering students not only a masterful exploration of drumming but also an inspiring perspective on what it means to be a musician.
